Wrestling Promo of the Day

Oh my God! It's the Karl Gotch of wrestling sections, step inside to catch all the latest on everything else from the defunct to Terry Funk, Dusty Rhodes to Rip Rogers, the Nature Boy to the Natural Born Thrillers to the National Treasure. Vince Russo says, bro, this is the place to be, bro.

Indeed so  Great James Storm & Kurt Angle there :!: So, next might be an obvious one but you'll see this will spin-off something different soon, something I've want to do for a while. How apropos of Me doing this around Survivor Series time, yes it's coming soon :!: So, I've posted something like this before, but I wanted to do it again. here's one of Rocky Maivia's first promos. With all of the new & returning talent coming to the WWF in 96, there was so few that vignettes & hype, Vader, The Ultimate Warrior, The Stalker & Rocky Maivia were really all that did.

So, Survivor Series is known for it's debuts. Well, Rocky Maivia debuted at the 96 Edition. Here's his entrance. Listen to how Jim Ross goes way over for him., hyping him up as much as possible. Look at all that talent, 'The Stalker" Barry Windham, "Wildman" Marc Mero, Jake "The Snake" Roberts was his partners while his opponents were Jerry "The King" Lawler, HHH, Goldust and "Jailbird" CRUSH :o Again, The Nation of Domination wasn't formed till the next day on Monday Night Raw that I showed you before so Crush was still on his own with Clarence Mason. Watch Maivia go :!:

Yeah, I eventually saw that match. The entrance gear he had plus his hair, I don't know who thought that was a good look, but they were wrong. Still, there may never have been a Rock if fans didn't first get to hate this version of him.

First off, that was a good but usual Jerry "The King" Lawler promo. The stuff down South was so fun from the 70s to the 90s. I always thought it was such a great alternative to WWF, WCW & ECW despite they became talent unchanging & swapping organizations with them. People say about how The Undertaker kept up his gimmick for so long. Well, he wasn't always The Undertaker as you know. Jerry Lawler kept his King gimmick up since he started in wrestling being a major heel, a face as well as a tweener and he's still like that  The Lawler & Austin Idol feud was a great one.

Okay, now, as for Rocky Maivia, notice the second theme that I posted yesterday with the Rocky chants, they did that so fans would get behind him more but I don't think it worked. His hair was alright but I beg the differ about his attire. I thought it matched his heritage. I love his colors being different shades of blue + white. Yes and he definitely wouldn't be "The Final Boss" now either :o Now, as you saw, he debuted against some of the WWF's top guys as he was immediately put in that position instead of ranking up against Duane Gill, The Brooklyn Brawler or somebody like that. Well, I said about that I'm going to have a spin-off from this...here's the spoiler. Rocky goes up against Salvatore Sincere in his debut bout, yet another newcomer to The Federation. He is Tom Brandi/Johnny Gunn. I will focus on him once I'm done with this NOD special. So Rocky goes up against Sincere. During his entrance there's a promo by Captain Louis Albano, listen to what he says and then listen to what of all people says..."The Rock" Don Muraco :o

Here's this promo of Rocky Maivia with Kevin Kelly in December of 96. Jim Cornette interrupts. Keep in mind that Cornette was Yokozuna's spokesman and made him a champion. By this time in the WWF, Rocky's great cousin Yokozuna was out of the picture and it was time to move on to Maivia  Look at Rocky close, he looks so much like a young Uso

I just think it was too colorful for the direction the WWF was heading at that point. He looks like a swole Pat Mahomes, lol.

A swole Pat Mahomes  Oh that's the time I was talking about a while back when there was a big thing going on WCW and Ric Flair left the company in 1991 and then WCW made a new World Championship with a completely new design. When this was happening it was huge because for the people who only watched WWF and didn't care or know about the others Feds, it was like oh he's coming here now  For people who watched both WWF & WCW on TV on a regular basis it was a holy $h!t moment because I knew Flair and all that great stuff he had with Sting & Luger plus I had his Galoob figures too :o It was a super duper fun time in 91 :) The WWF Championship that Hogan had was like "THE ONE" but that NWA/WCW title that Heenan held was much older with more history so that's why he called it "The Real World's Championship". Who knew a little over a decade later that very same title would be brought back in the picture to be won & defended for a long time but they rarely mentioned, if at all the time when Heenan & Flair brought it to the WWF during those unreal, darn near surreal moments in 91 and he was arguably the biggest newcomer of 91  Oh and the reason why Jim"The Anvil" Neidhart was there is because he was a commentator for a brief while soon to be with "The Rocket" Owen Hart as The New Foundation :)

Okay, now here's this about The Nation of Domination. Things have changed. Many members left the NOD and Crush & Savio Vega was fired from the NOD. Only D-Lo Brown remained. This is what I saying to you before. All of a sudden here comes Kama Mustafa. No hype, no nothing at all. When I first saw this when it happen in 97 I was like oh wow, Kama is back. But as I said to you before, his charisma and stuff he had as Kama "The Supreme Fighting Machine" wasn't there and he looked Papa Shango with no face-paint. Then the unthinkable happen

So now with Ahmed Johnson's reasoning of why he joined the NOD, the D.O.A. - The Disciples of Apocalypse debuts  That's Crush, Chainz (Brian Lee - Ted DiBiase's Fake Undertaker), Skull & 8-Ball (Jacob & Eli Blu - The Grimm Twins). Watch how darn awesome this was...I really liked this when it was ongoing :)

More tomorrow about this hectic fun time in 97 :)

It was weird back in the day when guys would just debut as someone else. They could never do that with the internet nowadays, which is why I hate it when the WWE still changes someone's name.
