Cleveland Rocks: Oh Fudge Edition!

Postby packerbacker180 » Thu Jan 23, 2025 8:25 pm

Well, last weekend was my birthday and my youngest son also happened to have a hockey tournament in Cleveland so we stayed there from Friday the 17th to my birthday on Sunday the 19th. He had the same tournament there last year for MLK weekend as well, but we didn't get to do as much last year because of scheduling so the one place I really wanted to visit for years, we just didn't have the time. Last year the boys wanted to hang out at the hotel and my wife and daughter went to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and by the time they did that we really didn't have a chance to do much more sight seeing. But this year we made a point to visit the one place I really have wanted to go to for years, but that will have to wait for a future post.

First I was going to start by sharing a place my wife found for us to have dinner at Friday night in Cleveland Heights. I figured people would find it interesting. Unfortunately, it was night time and with all the lights our pictures aren't the greatest. So I was going to start out with this local Cleveland news report.

It's a little late for Halloween, but we thought it was a fun place. There were movies playing on the TVs but there wasn't any sound. But I was sure to sing along to the songs I knew. See the pictures below for further explanation. The food was good. It wasn't amazing. It wasn't bad. The menu had horror themed names to all the food, and the punchbowl drinks we had were set up so the server would come poor the alcohol in and it would fog up like a potion, which made for a fun sight. They had non-alcoholic versions for kids, too. I should've taken a picture of the menu but this was part of it taht I found online.

And here's the pics we took while there.

As you can see they have quite a bit of horror decor. And I was happy to see Little Shop of Horrors was on including my favorite part with Steve Martin. There was a guy dressed like the Scream who was walking around with a knife and a cordless phone. I'm not sure if he actually took phone calls. At one point there was some loud pounding and then some sirens and several servers came ut of the kitchen with various weapons as the loudspeaker announced the Purge had begun. I assume it was something from The Purge movies but I've never seen any of them. So it was a fun night. The food wasn't expensive and it wasn't too scary, not that I was worried about my kids. They've probably seen worse on YouTube and TikTok. So that was our Friday dinner. I'll try to post the rest this weekend but we're off to Utica NY in the morning, so forgive me if I fall behind.

Hint: last Sunday I got to touch the soft glow of electric sex!

It's not what you think, unless you're thinking about December. Sadly, I forgot my USB charger cord so I can't transfer all the photos to upload, so the next posts will have to wait until Monday. Womp womp.

Wow, this place looks totally amazing, man. I love all the statues and horror themed goodies. I've definitely got to give the place a visit someday!

Yeah, it looks good. It would be more proper to visit it at Halloween time. Back to the Purge. I've seen all of them except the recent Purge Forever and only the first season of the series. Their pretty good. Later, I can spotlight them in your Movie Trailer Topic :batwink:

Ok, in case you didn't get my "soft glow..." reference, this was surprisingly the only clip I could find with it actually in it.

I've known about this place this it opened, but never got the chance to get there until a couple weeks ago. If you didn't know, here's this from it's wiki page:

House From A Christmas Story (f/k/a "A Christmas Story House") is an attraction and museum in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. The 19th-century Victorian house, which was used in the exterior and some interior scenes of Ralphie Parker's house in the 1983 film A Christmas Story, was purchased by a private developer in 2004 and has been restored and renovated to appear as it did in the film both inside and outside. The museum is part of a complex of four buildings devoted to the film and is open to the public year round.

Now, there's several houses on the street that are connected, on one side of the street is Ralphie's actual house you see in the film. That has been restored with mostly replicas of the original decor. Next door to that, or course, is the Bumpass' house which you can actually stay the night in. We did not go inside there Across the street on the corner is the actual museum full of movie memorabilia from the film and the production. Next store to that is the gift shop and a couple open garages with cars from that era.

I took a lot of photos so I'm going to break this up by location, starting with the actual house from the film. I normally don't include pictures with me in them, but I'll make an exception here. And because there's so may photos I'm going to break this house up into the downstairs first and then the upstairs tomorrow. It's not really a big house so you wouldn't think there'd be a lot of pictures, but there were so many neat period items, that you'll see why so many pictures were taken.

To get in you had to pay $20 for the tour that was ran hourly. You basically gathered in the living room and the curator told some stories about the house and filming and then you were allowed to wander for 15-20 minutes and take pictures. Since everything was a replica, you were allowed to pick up anything for photos. Then we went in the backyard and talked about the Black Bart scenes. Then we went across the street and went in the actuall museum which was 5-6 rooms of movie props and stuff. So here's the downstairs of the house...

I knew it had something to do with A Christmas Story, but I didn't expect this  From Halloween & Horror to Christmas. See...it's great to have this stuff all year round :blbat: :scww: That's amazing that place exists :!: I had no idea that it does :o Sounds cheap to be at. It looks just like it did in the movie and it's cool that they have all of those props & pictures of the cast. That's great they even kept the box for the gun :!: Imagine if they were like a lot of society and threw that away :batsmh: :wwsmh: :smsmh: If i was there I would be gawking at it looking for all of the information & copyrights which is so very important as I say in My Showcases :batwink: I was surprised to see you there. I like that your showing your gray hair. I've always liked it when a man shows his natural colors but as always, think young ;) That's good there wasn't a ton of people there. I hate crowds, it's so hard to enjoy and sync everything in for Myself plus I want to do it as long as possible too. Again, something else from Ohio :batconfused: :wwhuh: :smhuh: As the State's slogan is: The Heart of it All" :!: This was really rad Packer :)

Hey, woah woah woah, what's this 'grey' you speak of? It must be the lighting in there. We almost didn't get a chance to see any of this. I didn't realize you had to pay for the tour in order to go outside the houses. We got there less than 10 minutes before the next tour started, but fortunately there were still tickets available to buy online at their website. You had to scan a QR code at the gift shop, so we made the tour with minutes to spare. Otherwise we would've had to wait another hour which probably would not have happened considering we were heading home after and the weather was going to get crappy in the afternoon. Look for the upstairs photos later today!
