The Classic Kaiju Topic: GODZILLA'S 70TH ANNIVERSARY!!!

Gosh, that's great that you like River City Ransom...such a great alternative to Double Dragon. One day I might showcase My game I don't know, with Me stuff just clicked with Me. I saw Godzilla 1985 I just loved it, I watched it so many times sitting right in front of the TV and I wanted more. I saw Abbott & Costello & The Three Stooges, I wanted to see more of them. When I saw Hulk Hogan in Rocky III, I wanted more, when I saw Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, E.T. Star Trek, etc. I wanted more. I like a lot of things. I don't know, I'm different and really that's all I know how to explain it. Yes, kids have it easier than we did but they don't know how it was when we were a kid during the original days. With this new book it gives them a new edge that we didn't, and I hope novice kids really like it too and want more of it

we go with My next entry for My Kaiju Topic. This is a special & imperative one because this Book & Movie is WHAT INSPIRED GODZILLA & GAMERA to be created This is absolutely paramount for any noob & novice, children & adults alike to know if they really want to be a Kaiju fan because I've known this for ages. Now follow Me here because this is quite historical. The late great Ray Bradbury who wrote many famed stories including The Martian Chronicles from 1950, The Illustrated Man (1951) Fahrenheit 451 (1953), The Illustrated Man (1951) and October Country (1955) among others. Here's a picture of the famed man back in his day



Ray wrote one particular story that had a big creature in it...it was originally published as "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" in the Saturday Evening Post which Warner Bros. purchased the rights to make their own film The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (isn't it strange that WB now owns the MonsterVerse which as one of the most biggest of results would inspire Godzilla & Gamera which without this story by Bradbury... THERE WOULD BE NO GODZILLA, GAMERA or most of anything that us Kaiju fans love today and this is why this is arguably THE most important entry of ALL MONSTER/KAIJU stories & films Here's a brief look at the original Saturday Evening Post featuring the story from June 23, 1951 that was only 15¢ back then and imagine how fun it was for kids to see this back in the old days




Now in reprints of Ray's great story, he re-titled it so the book wouldn't be confused with the film...first it would called The Monster from Beneath the Sea then it was called The Fog Horn which is horns/devices on/by Lighthouses on the coast to warn ships & vessels of any danger. This also meant that the creature's ROAR sounded like a Fog Horn too So while his story is much different than the movie like many novel tales that is immortalize into film, it's about a couple of lighthouse workers who encounter a prehistoric creature from the great sea which is attracted to the lighthouse foghorn



So here's the creature which is like some kind of Aquatic Sauropod from this painting as it's depicting the sea monster's attack by James Bingham



Here's some Concepts by stop-motion special effects master Ray Harryhausen whom I showed during My Mighty Joe Young spotlight. This was only his second full-length creation for a film believe it or not





Ultimatlely Harryhausen went with this design and it was called Rhedosaurus



It's also known by many names such as Dinosaur, TFH The Beast, Sea Serpent,TBf2KF Rhedosaur and Herman



According to Rhedosaurus creator Ray Harryhausen, the monster's name may have been finalized by The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms producer [/b]Hal E. Chester[/b] or perhaps one of the film's writers. He went on to say that some people believe the first two letters of Rhedosaurus' name were indeed inspired by his initials, R. H. As seen in the film, the creature is dubbed "the Beast" and is initially nicknamed a "Sea Serpent" by a publication plus it is also known as Herman and is sometimes referred to as a "Rhedosaur.". This actually common as many movie monsters & creatures have multiple different names.




So now here's the cool poster of the movie. As you can tell, "The Beast" looks just like Harryhausen's creation and a completely different design compared to Bradbury & Bingham's creation



So the plot goes like this. A Atomic/Nuclear Bomb goes off and wakes up the only surviving member on an ancinet species from 100 Million Years ago in the Artic and notice how many films take place there over the decades Yep, sounds like Godzilla & Gamera alright




People are injured during the incident...



after the discovery, the movie takes place in classic New York.



There we're going to the museum's Palenotology department because Dinosaurs and Giant Monsters goes hand in hand and as I always say, if things go hand in hand then it's an aboslute no-brainer to be a part of it all



Paleontologist Thurgood Elson get's the shocking news...



Tom Nesbitt tries to reach the department and is susccesfull as Elson's assissant Lee Hunter believes his story as he identifies what species it is I love the classical Dinosaur stuff that is seen here in the film







Now they must present the info of the giant monster to "big brother...



they then must watch as the Rhedosaurus destroys the city and cause ubelievable damage







Godzilla & Gamera wouldn't be the only Kaijus that would be inspired by this. There's a Giant Octopus seen briefly in the film which was going to have a much larger role...



Toho would also lunge at this too and make their own Giant Octopus called Oodako and he would appear in a lot of Toho's media including the "LOST" ALTERNATE ENDING of 1965's Frankenstein Conquers the World



So here's a bit of info of the Rhedosaurus. It's aquatic obviously...



Here's the famed Lighthouse scene that is based from The Fog Horn. I recall when I first saw this on TV, My Grandpa PoPo loved that I was amazed by this when I was a youngster





The ancient reptile is quite big at 40 feet tall, over 100 feet long and weighs a few hundred tons



The Beast is almost indestructable as his scales are so thick and only bazooka rockets seem to hurt him. Once he is bleeding, his blood is contaminated with a prehistoric virus and there is no cure known for humanity Here's some great pics of the Rhedosaurus from the film

The Rhedosaurus has had many brifef and unexpected appearenced in media since he was created. Now here's the first one...check this, THREE/3 DAYS BEFORE The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms was released in 1953, Robot Monster 3D came out and LOOK at this poster as The Rhedosaurus Beast is on it



Here's the second one. he appeared in 1977's Planet of the Dinosaurs. My Grandparents recored this for Me when I was a youngster and it's still a great movie.



A space crew is forced to land on an unknown planet and it's Era is very much like Earth's Mesozoic but these species are really considered to extraterrestrials Look as there's a smaller induvidual Rhedosaurus ready to fight a Tyrannosaurs Rex...this is incredible



In the third issue of Ray Bradbury Comics by Topps in the crucial year of 1993, a Sea Monster appeared and was an homage to his original dsesign




Now The Fog Horn has inspired the 1997 Pokémon: The Series episode "Mystery at the Lighthouse"





He also made an cameo appearnace in 2008's Cloverfield in a "hidden frame"



more recently the 2019 short film Howl From Beyond The Fog



In 2021 in the Netflix animated series Godzilla Singlular Point, there is a poster in one of the episodes of the Rhedosaurus




As a final special note, though The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms had not yet been released in Japan when Toho producer Tomoyuki Tanaka came up with the idea for Godzilla, he was well aware of its success in the United States, even titling his initial story proposal "The Giant Monster from 20,000 Miles Under the Sea", Shigeru Kayama's treatment actually included a scene where Godzilla attacked a lighthouse, although Ishiro Honda and Takeo Murata removed the whole thing in their revisions Like the Rhedosaurus, Godzilla was a dinosaur roused by nuclear testing who sank fishing vessels before coming ashore wrecking havoc to major city however while the Rhedosaurus posed a threat primarily due to the ancient disease that he spread, Godzilla's menace stemmed from his impossible size, destructive atomic breath, and immunity to modern weapons. Godzilla also contained a far more pointed anti-nuclear message than The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms did So here's a Japanese Program about The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, this here shows you how they were fascinated by this as a whole to create Godzilla among other Kaijus




I hope you liked that and were thrilled. Next up will be the first Godzilla movie from 1954 as I said just a few short moments ago, if there was Fog Horn/The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms there would be no Godzilla and I hope that people especially kids realize that today. I did not know or realize all of that. I'd never heard of those movies though I've heard of Ray Bradbury (I think most people have). I don't know if it's just me, but a lot of the images didn't come up. But there's a lot to take in there. I didn't know this predated Godzilla. That's interesting.

Thanks Packer Yeah, I was afraid of that, the place I get My pics started a darn security issue and is flaky now There is nothing wrong with the pics, they don't show up for Me either on Chrome, Edge among others. You gotta click the pic and click your not a robot then it shows up. I have no clue why they had to change which I hate change I didn't want to quit doing this like this however because they have most I need for My spotlights but I may alter things in the near future. So I figured out the great Maxthon browser I already had for this shows up with no prob, I'm so glad it works and I hope it continues that way. I hope you seen enough of the materiel to show you how cool this story, movie & trivia is



Okay now moving on. Yes, I would hope most people have heard of Ray Bradbury and especially Ray Harryhausen, his creature creations are so fantastic. Like I said previously, he was/is a household name around My Family for a long time, how could you not talk about Harryhausen when you talk about these great movies that he made creatures for My Grandpa PoPo is the one that told Me about him when I was a youngster I'm really not sure how many people knew about that The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms is THE ONE. Oh yes, knowing that The Fog Horn Beast of 20,000 Fathoms predated Godzilla is incredible, I'm all for history like that I mean

Okay, I hope you watched that special video I posted the other day of The Rhedosaurus vs. Godzilla. I thought that was so marvelous Now, I just saw this tiny commercial the other day and I thought that I should definitely post it here. It's an ad from Peacock. They have a ton of great stuff. See My Horror Topic for more there Now, it features Twisters which I haven't seen yet but plan on too soon because I'm a huge fan of the first film. It also features the Jurassic World films which is great as they fit a bit here. Now they also show the totally epic 2005 King Kong as well. It's really a Holiday film. Me & Mom saw it on Christmas Night on the same day it came out in 2005 It was a very memorable night If you noticed, I chose that version of Kong in My header on the very first page of this great Topic of Mine. It's My fave Kong film. As I said before when I posted the 1933 "LOST SPIDER PIT SCENE" that it too has one horrific Spider Pit scene. The 3 hour epic is a tremendous film but the second hour is pure horror and any horror & Kaiju fan alike should see it and I will spotlight this in time. Now as I mentioned previously, this year marks Godzilla's 70th Birthday. That's absolutely huge if your a Kaiju fan So, here's a fantastic Godzilla size chart, I love this stuff to see how Godzilla has evolved over the many decades

Okay, as with My two previous posts, now here's three really cool videos that is celebrating Godzilla's 70th Anniversary Can you believe that the franchise is that old already It was already about 30 years old when I got into it as a youngster with Godzilla 54 & 85 Here's this special news report. I find it funny that it's Boston and that where G:KOTM took place Oh yeah, the toys was a huge part for Me of liking Kaijus even more. Watch this

Here's this great video. It shows EVERY Godzilla film...keep in ind this year also celebrates te 10th Anniversary of the MonsterVerse too! I love how the music is Akira Ifukube's origin theme then it morphs when Godzilla 2014 appears into Bear McCreary's epic version. Watch & listen, it's so wonderful



I hope Gamera will get a similar treatment next year because he'll have his 60th Anniversary then So soon I'm going to post My Godzilla 54 spotlight, I'm not sure when that will be, just be alert for that plus I may post a special for the MonsterVerse Topic soon too so be on the look out for that as well plus more elsewhere

Oh those were really good. I wish I still had my Shogun Warrior Godzilla but that was a long time ago, lol. I really like both Godzilla theme versions, they're so easily recognizable and iconic. I took my son to a Sabres game on Veteran's Day, and when they were going to the power play they played a bit of the Godzilla theme and it made my son's day, lol.

I'm glad ou liked them. Yes, they are. There's much other great Kaiju music other the Godzilla themes too. Well that's wonderful to know and Im glad of it If I was there I probably would have been doing a conducting act and trying to get the crowd going about it. See, this is what I'm talking about. Back in My day, you couldn't pay companies to play the Godzilla theme anywhere or do this & that about Godzilla much less any Kaiju. Kids & adults alike are very lucky that today's age is taking a liking to Godzilla. That's great that he loved that See if he knows about The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and that it was before Godzilla
