I was not familiar with that but it makes me think of the Sol Firth Spaceman.

A while back I'd heard a report that West Virginia was one of the best places to retire, and as we drove through it this summer, I can see because it's pretty and mountainous. But with the amount of cryptids, I don't know. Count amongst them today's Monster of the Day.

Image

It all started on June 16th, 1965, as a reporter for the Grafton Sentinel by the name of Robert Cockrell was making his way home. Around 11 PM he reported seeing a white creature by the right-hand side of the road. By his account he reported the creature had slick “seal-like” skin and no visible head and was between seven to nine feet tall and four feet wide. He sped off and returned later with friends who helped him search the area. Nothing was discovered except a worn spot in the grass where he said the creature was spotted.

Image

Being a journalist Cockrell decided to tell his story and a small write up appeared in the Grafton Sentinel on June 18th 1965. This report plunged the small town into a flurry of monster madness and resulted in hundreds of citizens scouring the town armed with pitch forks and guns. Some reported seeing the creature but only Cockrell's initial testament remains as a recorded eyewitness account. He would later investigate the case himself and work with Gray Barker who intended to write an article in a UFO magazine claiming the creature was possibly of extraterrestrial origin but it would go unpublished.

Image

More than twenty sightings were reported from this monster hunt, which Robert Cockrell interviewed in detail. Below are two of those alleged sightings:

"I have seen the creature called 'The Grafton Monster' several times when I was a young man and it is very real. My first encounter I was with my Father cutting wood. We had finished and we're loading the truck, when our two dogs started barking. We stood there and listened, something was walking, getting closer. My Dad told me to get the gun from the cab Whatever it was had picked up its pace and continued toward us. All we knew for sure was, it was big and wasn’t scared of us, the dogs or the chainsaws. It stopped about 50-55 yards from us in the tree’s and went quiet. My Dad pulled both hammers back and stood in front of me, told me to be ready. The next thing that happened I’ll never forget. It stepped out, looked at us, took 3 strides in our direction, turned and walked back into the tree line. That was my first sighting of the beast and I’ll never forget it. My 2nd encounter was about 2 months later at night, fishing alone. I spotted him on the opposite bank and I got the hell out of the area"

The Grafton Sentinel posted on Jun 19th that the alleged monster was simply from an individual who had been pushing a handcart loaded high with boxes along Riverside drive on Tuesday night. The newspaper claimed that due to the dim lighting and the "wildly imaginative" teens, this handcart was the most likely cause for the story and sightings. The paper then stated: "It's fairly certain that "monsters” don’t go around pushing handcarts loaded with boxes."

Real or not? It's hard to prove a negative, and though the creature wasn't portrayed as menacing, I wouldn't like to come across him. Unless of course it was at the annual Grafton Monster Festival.

Oh yes, the Solway Firth Spaceman, there is a similarly

Image
Image

Wow, the Grafton Monster, I didn't expect that one...good one Packer :)

Okay, I think from now to Halloween I'm going to do monsters from movies, games and the like which may surprise you of what I have in mind. You can continue with the Cryptids and mysterious stuff as much as you want PB :)

First up is an entry of one of My all-time fave movies and you know I spotlighted this one heavily called Suburban Commando that came out in 1991 :)

Image

It was such a good feel good film, it stars Hulk Hogan against big guys, Bounty Hunters, Aliens. It also starred Christoper Lloyd Shelly Duvall, The Undertaker, it was like Star Wars in ways and had a good score so what more could you ask for :?:

Image
Image

and yes, Hogan aka Shep Ramsay is from up there :blsm:

Image
Image
Image

This poster gives you a hint of what today's Monster of the Day is...

Image

It's General Suitor....at your service :!: Played by the late great William Ball, he's an evil galactic overlord who wants to rule the universe and Shep's arch-nemesis

Image

As he says, he's not egotistical, proud maybe :smgasp:

Image

He'll do whatever it takes to get his way however...

Image

do not injure him, he'll go mad and reveal his true colors...

Image

which is his true form which is a 7 foot, Reptilian Alien :o :batshock: :wwshock: :blmm:

Image

With all of the things we know about the Reptilians & Dracos in Ufology & Mythology & elsewhere, Hollywood shows up more :blsm:

Image

Yes, he has a brief fight with "The Hulkster" too :!:

Image

I always thought that the General Suitor character was very good and that his cryptic true-self was a surprise :blmm: So that was Monster of the Day for today and I hope you liked that :blbat:

That's cool. We've honestly covered a ton of cryptids already unless we get into the variants of Bigfoot and Nessie. We've done a lot of the more famous ones. But since we were just talking about Dogmen, how about we go to the True North strong and strange...

Image

Inuit are a group of culturally similar Indigenous peoples traditionally inhabiting the Arctic and subarctic regions of North America, including Greenland, Labrador, Quebec, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, the Yukon, and Alaska. According to Inuit legend, the Adlet race came into existence after a young woman declined all the marriage proposals from a long list of suitors. Because she was not able to choose a suitable husband, the young woman instead decided to marry a white dog with red spots. After some time, the young woman gave birth to ten children, five were said to be full dog, and the other five were said to be Adlet. Since the young dog-people were quite noisy and constantly hungry, their grandfather loaded them, their mother, and their dog father into a small boat and took them all to an empty island in order to distance them from others. The grandfather then told their father, the white dog with red spots, that he must swim back and forth from the island daily to bring back meat to his children in order to feed them. The grandfather promised that he would hunt and harvest the meat from the mainland and would pass it on to his grandchildren in order to satisfy their cravings. So every day, the dog father would swim across the lake with a pair of old boots tied around his neck in order for the grandfather to fill with meat. One day though, after growing tired of constantly hunting for food for his grandchildren, the grandfather filled the dog father’s boots with rocks instead of meat, thus causing him to drown in the lake.

Image

Upon hearing that her father had killed her dog husband, the young woman sent her grown Adlet children across the lake in order to kill their grandfather. When they arrived on the mainland, the dog-men found their grandfather and killed him by gnawing off both his feet and hands. Afterward, when the Adlet returned to the island, their mother presented them with a new boat and told them to leave the island so as to avoid any men that may try to come and seek revenge for the death of their grandfather. So after setting out into the world, the hybrids eventually found human wives of their own and each one had many Adlet children, and as the tribe grew in numbers, they eventually started to distance themselves further from the gaze of men, thus becoming true legends.

Adlet are described as beings with the upper body of a human and the lower extremities of a dog. Their hybrid form grants them human intelligence and canine agility and strength. In traditional depictions, Adlet stand taller than men and possess immense physical prowess, making them formidable beings in their environment. Legends tell of their extraordinary speed, rivaling the swiftest of animals in the North American wilderness. Their dog-like legs, perfectly adapted to the harsh and snowy landscapes, enable them to traverse vast distances with remarkable ease. The Adlet were feared by the Inuit people because they were believed to be fierce warriors. They were said to have the strength and agility of a wolf and the intelligence of a human. The Inuit people believed that the Adlet would attack their villages and steal their food. They also believed that the Adlet were cannibals and would eat human flesh.

Whether the Adlet are ancestors of the Dogmen of modern times is unknown, but they certainly are an interesting story. And many ancient stories have more kernels of truth than fiction in them than we are ready to accept.

Yes, I thought so. Cryptids are great and all that, but I just wanted some variety since Halloween is just in mere days now  Ah man, the Adlet, now that's a good one and what different Dogman too :o Yes, I believe much is possible :o

So today's Monster of the Day will be a trio from the great Rampage Video Game Franchise, which is Geroge the Gorilla, Lizzie the Lizard & Ralph the Wolf :blbat: :blww: :blsm:

Image

While I was never able to play the actual The Arcade Game, I played it for most of the Console games...

Image

and I'll never forget the first time I saw this over at Movie King for the NES way back in the good ol' days :)

Image

Inspired by classic Kaiju films...

Image

they are created by experiments, but their stories do vary, and these creatures destroy:!:

Image

Now here's a collage of all three main characters thru the ages which also includes the awesome movie :blsm:

Image

Now as you saw there was big differences from the film as George is now Albino as an inspiration of The Son of Kong named Kiko...

Image
Image

Lizzie is truly monstrous, she's a Crocodile this time and it was Godzilla vs Kong before that film came out two years later

Image
Image

Ralph was great and was almost like a flying Werewolf :o

Image
Image

Now there is many, many more monsters that is part of the Rampage franchise and I may focus on them in time :blaq:

Image

I look to post about the film in the modern Kaiju Topic which is current the MonsterVerse Topic. I plan on posting more in My great Classic Kaiju Topic as well as My Horror Topic among others. There's so much to post in so little time. Well, I hope you liked this Rampage entry here :blbat:

Rampage was one of my go to arcade games a kid. It was simple enough to play when I was 8-9 years old. The NIntendo version was pretty good but they dropped Ralph from it and he was always my pick at the arcade. Still, a great game. Never saw the movie. Didn't realize there were more characters.

That's great :) Honestly, I didn't know about Ralph till I got the N64 game. Yes, there's many more monsters and the movie is pretty good.

So today's Monster of the Day will be a continuation from last year...here's these quotes

No matter who would drive down the road and help them, the Monster would get and destroy them :!:

Image

This creature is only known as "The Monster" :blaq:

Image

While it seems like some kind of mutant, it's definitely some kind of reptilian of unknown origin :blmm:

Image

The Monster is intelligent and is extremely blood thirsty and will kill anything, Human and Animal. It's a killing machine for the lust of killing as territory & food seems to have no place of The Monster's madness :o

Soon, the duo's bickering will be the least of their worries :blaq:

I'm not familiar with that movie but it sounds like an interesting creature. I almost feel like there's some kind of twist but that's just a gut feeling. Speaking of gut feelings (nice segue--Tom) that ties into today's Monster of the Day!

Image

A fearsome nocturnal creature is said to prey upon those who find themselves wandering in the woods. To even whisper the creatures terrifying name is to invite trouble. Lumberjacks have historically had much to fear in a dangerous job--being maimed, physical injury, bears, falling trees and most worrisome of all, the dreaded Hidebehind.

Image

While its name may not strike fear into the hearts of the unfamiliar, those who know the story of the creature would shutter at the very mention. According to the lore, the Hidebehind got its name from how it stalked its prey - hiding behind it. It hid behind trees in the forest and stalked its prey as it concealed itself amongst the forest. Whenever someone’s back was turned, it would creep closer. When it finally was close enough to its victim it would instantly gouge out the stomach and intestines of the victim. The Hidebehind would then feast on the raw meat. Assaults by the Hidebehind were so instant that even if not completely deadly, the victim often died of fright alone.

Image

If you have ever been in the woods and felt that strange feeling that something was behind you, watching, waiting, well then count your blessings, for you may've just unknowingly survived a close encounter with a Hidebehind. The Hidebehind’s physical description is hard to nail down, as it is so rarely seen. However, those who have glimpsed this horrid creature describe it as wraith-like and vaguely humanoid. The body of this creature was undeniably slender, though, as it was able to conceal itself behind a whole variety of trees. Additionally, one would have to guess that it has fearsome claws in order to eviscerate its victims instantaneously.

The Hidebehind’s body is slender and capable of hiding behind various trees, suggesting it has the ability to contort itself. Its fearsome claws are likely used to quickly tear apart its prey. Because there are numerous descriptions of the creature and it can hide behind any object, some believe it may have shapeshifting abilities or a highly flexible body. The Hidebehind is known to produce eerie and unusual sounds that are frequently heard near camping areas during the late hours of the night.

Given its elusive nature and highly developed hunting skills, avoiding this creature may seem like a daunting task. However, there is a straightforward solution: consume a substantial amount of alcohol. According to most reports, the Hidebehind has an aversion to the scent of alcohol. Therefore, if you were to intoxicate yourself, the creature would be less inclined to make a meal out of you. With the knowledge that consuming alcohol can serve as a defense mechanism against the Hidebehind, lumberjacks adopted this practice as a means of protection when they suspected the creature was lurking in the vicinity. However, as expected, some individuals used this as an excuse to indulge in excessive drinking.

So be careful next time you're in the woods and you get that feeling that you're not alone. You might just be right.

I recommend that movie, it's an extremely serious, dark & gory film. Wow, the Hindbehind, now that is one heck of a Cryptid :!: I would sure be afraid if I saw that creature...believe you Me :o Great one Packer :)

So, My Monster of the Day might be an obvious one then again maybe not...it's the movie version of THE SPINOSAURUS :o

Image

I'm choosing this because the first time I saw him in Jurassic Park /// with My Grandparents at the AMC Theater in Crestwood he became My fave dinosaur of not only the franchise but also in general

Image

Now here's a little history for those that don't know. Remember when I spotlight them great "LOST" Japanese films such as King Kong & Giant Buddah in My Classic Kaiju Topic :?: Well, as I said there it was very heartbreaking because so much of Japna's media Library was lost due to the senseless WW2 and then Japan had to start over  People don't realize how horrible that was but this wasn't it because in Germany, a great museum was bombed and it had a complete Skeleton of The Spinosaurus was destroyed and for many decades most of the knowledge was lost with that bombing and after that we would get drawings like this.

Image

Then a big bang in the 80s happen which this was arguably the most important time in Paleontology because in 1983 the Baryonx (Heavy Claw) would be discovered in England :!:

Image

As a side note, the Baryonx made a big appearance in 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom :!:

Image

Nobody knew what family he belonged in until 1998 or so when the bones were found in Egypt and it was like Baryonx but a few times bigger then it was known it was the RE-DISCOVERY OF THE SPINSAURUS (Spine Lizard) :o

Image

So after this absolute major discovery, they immediately put the creature in the next Jurassic Park film in 2001 :o

Image

I love how the animal is that it's huge about 20 feet tall, 50 feet long and over 10 tons with its big, long arms and temperature adjusting sail. It's aquatic & terrestrial and is said be piscivores but I believe it's big predator on land and in the water

Image

Now, with all of that known, here's some clips of The Spinosaurus from JP/// :!: These two clips are some of My fave scenes from any film, I just love it when she says "what's a bad idea" and then you hear The Spinosaurus' roar and Don Davis's (The Matrix Trilogy) great music :)

Now this is completely awesome how The Spinosaurus destroys the plane & eats the pilot and roars. It's horrible that he kills a T-Rex but hey, if this would happen in real life, I don't think it's too far off

So now you know The Spinosaurus is My fave of all. I liked the ones in the Jurassic World Trilogy, but The Spinosaurus will always be My fave of ever of all-time :blbat:

I was never much for dinosaurs, not that I don't think they're interesting or anything. When I was really young I remember those How to Draw books and always being fascinated by different dinosaurs. But I never really did a deep dive on them in later years so this was some interesting info. It would be amazing and frightening to ever see anything that big in person.

But there is another fearsome creature that still walks the Earth today. He may not steal Christmas, but he just might steal your blood.

Image

The Grunch Road Monster is described as being an elaborate cross between the canid and reptilian Chupacabras. New Orleans residents have named the creature the Grunch. The Grunch story supposedly goes back to the Crescent City's early roots. The earliest recorded sightings of the creature date back to the 1820s and 1830s, a time when New Orleans was still a relatively small and isolated frontier outpost surrounded by vast tracts of untamed swampland. For the city's early inhabitants, these dense, primordial wetlands were places of mystery and danger, where ancient Native American spirits and the ghosts of tortured slaves were said to roam alongside very real threats like alligators, panthers, and poisonous snakes.

Image

According to local lore, the Grunch made its home in the heart of this wilderness, along a remote stretch of shell road that came to be known as Grunch Road. Though the exact location has been lost to time, most accounts place it somewhere in the eastern part of New Orleans, in an area now known as the Little Woods. It was here, along the overgrown, serpentine curves of Grunch Road, that the creature was said to lie in wait for hapless travelers foolish enough to venture into its domain. Many early descriptions of the Grunch paint it as a grotesque hybrid of man and beast, with the scaly, leathery body of a reptile, the horned head of a goat, and the glowing red eyes of a demon. Some even claimed that the creature possessed the power to shape-shift or turn invisible, allowing it to stalk its prey unseen.

Image

But the Grunch was far from just another mindless predator. Those who encountered the beast and lived to tell the tale spoke of an uncanny intelligence lurking behind those fiery eyes - a malevolent, almost human cunning that set it apart from any normal animal. The Grunch was said to be able to open doors, use tools, and even mimic human speech in order to lure its victims to their doom.

And once the Grunch had its prey in its sights, the true horror would begin. Like the chupacabra of Latin American legend, the Grunch was known to drain the blood of its victims through a single, almost surgical puncture wound. Livestock and pets were frequent targets, their carcasses found scattered along the bayou, drained of every last drop of blood. But the creature's appetites were not limited to animals alone. Many tales speak of lone travelers or amorous couples who ventured down Grunch Road, never to be seen again. And even those lucky few who survived an encounter with the beast were said to be forever "marked," doomed to eventually transform into Grunches themselves.

One of the most chilling Grunch encounters on record occurred during the Civil War, when a group of Confederate soldiers camped along the banks of the Mississippi were savagely attacked by a "horned demon" that materialized out of the swamp. The soldiers managed to drive the beast off with a volley of rifle fire, but not before two men were torn to pieces. The incident was hushed up by the Confederate Army, but whispers of the "Chalmette Devil" would haunt the region for decades to come.

Image

Another wave of sightings occurred in the early 20th century, as the city's population boomed and development began to encroach on the creature's swampy domain. In 1909, a streetcar driver named Elmer Castine reported a terrifying encounter with a "huge, hairy beast" that leapt onto the back of his car and began clawing at the windows as he sped down a lonely stretch of track. Castine's story made headlines across the country, sparking a renewed interest in the legend of the Grunch.

But perhaps the most disturbing rash of Grunch activity in recent memory occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. As the city lay in ruins, with entire neighborhoods abandoned and reclaimed by the swamp, sightings of the creature began to skyrocket. Some even claimed that the Grunch had been driven from its lair by the storm and was now stalking the flooded streets and ruined buildings of New Orleans like a vengeful spirit. Lakeview residents nowadays tell of how they no longer leave their pets in the yard since Hurricane Katrina, as so many Grunches were displaced into the neighborhood. So keep your dawgs close, and your presents even closer.

Gosh, well I've always thought they were amazing since I was a youngster. Still I find them incredible I mean I don't think many people out there has really thought to themselves how radical it is that these creatures really existed and that there is so much in the past that we don't know and I find this as exciting if not more that cryptids and like I said before, Dinosaurs are big part of Cryptozoology & Kaiju films alike. Oh yes, the Dinosaur books were great back in the day. I still have My old ones, one day I may showcase them. Now see, with everything else I wanted to know more and then new things were being found and then even more of a reason to get further into it for Myself. The 80s & 90s just wasn't great for entertainment but also like I said, it was a big bang, there was a ton of discoveries that shaped up how we look at Dinosaurs today and one day I may go further about that :)

Oh man, The Grunch Road Monster, what a creature he is. Maybe he's a hybrid of the two the Chupacabras, what a strange combination that is  Louisiana has some real dandies down there. Now coincidentally My Monster comes from Louisiana...Missouri. I know I was doing creatures from Media but I kept on thinking about it and I'm like oh come, I gotta show My Missouri Pride I mean after all...I'm from "The Show Me" State :) So My Monster of the Day and for...

Image

is MoMo: The Missouri Monster :blaq:

Image

Now you know that I have talked about My sighting. I don't think it was MoMo, it was a Skunk Ape because it was so much like how that creature's description is in Florida, tall & slender and rooting through the dumpsters & trash. Now what I didn't reveal was this. Back in the days when I was a youngster, My Grandparents took Me down to the Old Caboose restaurant near where MoMo was seen. I recall this like it was last week. They changed it a bit now but here's a few pics of it. As you can see it's a real Caboose of an old locomotive

Image
Image
Image

It was amazing being there. Now while I cannot recall what I ate and stuff like that however there is 1...ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING I remember. The waitress there was telling Me & My Grandparents about some the weird happenings & sightings. I didn't know much about this stuff yet, I must have been 6 or 7...she told Us about MoMo, the Missouri Monster that he's been sighted around these parts :o Well, I think her story sparked a big thing within Me because soon after that I got those wonderful Monster Coloring Books at Woolworth that I showcased and started seeing movies like Harry & The Hendersons & Boggy Creek among others and I've had that urge about mysteries ever since :) I never thought in zillion years I'd actually see one however on that absolute remarkable morning in March of 2009, 15 years ago this year :o So there's that story that I never told before :blbat:

Image

So with all of that being said, here's these two videos of MoMo: the Bigfoot of Missouri :)

Have a Happy & Safe Halloween :blbat: :blww: :blsm: :blmm: :blhal: :blbaf: :blaq:
