The Package is a very good movie, really a must see I've seen Absolute Power before it, was pretty good. Here's the movie that Gene Hackman made his debut in 1961
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Yes, it sure was. I want to continue that because there's a lot I didn't point out, now follow Me here. Mad Dog Coll was based on true events. It has some nice Burlesque scenes in it, this movie is 1961, things were changing. I loved it that men was in awe about the women
This movie is violent.
History and the Rage
This is John Chandler who played Vincent 'Mad Dog' Coll.
This is the REAL Vincent Coll
Kay Doubleday & Joy Harmon are two of the nice looking women in the movie.
Now, the main thing your probably looking for here is Gene Hackman. Well, this was his first movie ever. He's an officer and only was there for a few minutes in a non-speaking role. His CO is played by Telly Savalas...this was also his debut movie as well
Savalas actually had hair here but he was mostly bald hence why he shaved his head later on thus making him a $3x symbol
Now, Vincent Gardenia (Death Wish 1 & 2) plays Dutch Schultz (Pic isn't from the movie).
Now, there's a couple guys that is also equally important note as Hackman. A VERY young late great Jerry Orbach is in the movie
As well as a young late great Leonardo Cimino...you know as "The Scary German Guy" from the 80's classic, 1987's The Monster Squad
My Mom loves mobster movies ever since she was a youngster. She told Me she watched Mad Dog Coll every time it came on TV, it's one of her faves. Now, here's the full movie that's free on YT. If you get the time & urge to watch this classic, I recommend that you do so especially if you want to see Hackman
OKAY, so I'm not stopping there. I never seen 1986's Hoosiers however...
I'm very familiar with the wonderful score by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith. If you seen the movie then I'm sure you are too
In this Cue, you sure can tell It's Goldsmith, absolutely no doubt about that
Tomorrow I'm continuing The Package however, it's going to be different than what you think, tune in then to see what I mean
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Yep, he had hair. I really recommend that you see the movie via teh link I posted You'll Telly with hair, when men went gaga over women and of course the first apperance of Gene Hackman
Ah yes, Elvis' 68 comeback. That was My fave time of him. I'll talk about that later
OK, now I said along the way of Me posting the Gene Hackman movies, there was going to be some surprises along the way. Well, here's one of'em. While this movie isn't an exact remake, it has the same title as Hackman's The Package and concept however the story, setting, atmosphere & overall look is nothing like that movie. This came out in 2012 and stars Stone Cold Steve Austin & Dolph Lundgren (they were both in 2010's The Expendables too)
Austin is a bouncer and a "stone cold" enforcer for his mob boss Big Doug.
Austin's play name is TOMMY WICK, this name & character predated JOHN WICK by about 2 years yet with all of the hype and everything about the John Wick franchise, people never acknowledge Austin's great movie & character probably because so few knew about this
Dolph Lundgren plays "The German". He was Wicks' former partner gone rogue.
Lundgren is something else as he's a monstrous sadist here
He desperately needs "The Package" and what's inside of it but what exactly is "The Package"
Now, their not the only two action stars here. One of the hitmen/mercenaries is played by the late great martial artist stuntman Darren Shahlavi. I posted about him before when I spotlighted 97's Bloodmoon that he fought Gary Daniels & Rob Van Dam. In The Package, he has a good fight with Austin
One of the other hitmen is played by Monique Ganderton. She's a great athlete & martial artist. She played Proxima Midnight in the MCU
She has a superb scene interrogating & torturing Wick. This was arguably My fave scene of the whole movie
Kristen Kerr plays Austin's super nice & sweet girlfriend (Pic isn't from the movie).
Eric Keenleyside plays the mob boss Big Doug (Pic isn't from the, film).
William B. Davis plays Dr. Willhelm whom is an important character. I find it strange that I'm posting about him again as Me & Packer recently did just a several short days ago (Pic isn't from the movie)
Now, if your a noob to this movie and if your wondering...the answer is YES...SCSA and the original He-Man & Punisher does have a big fight
Overall, this movie is solid, I seriously recommend that you see this as it has a cool story, filmed well, has great action and it has two big names
Here's the Trailer
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the excellent music by Sean Murray, instead, here's this scene of Dolph Lundgren from 2012's The Package
I bet you weren't expecting that one, more surprises and stuff to come. The next couple of days will be the Narrow Margin movies
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Not a bad cast, but not a movie I've seen. I only saw the first few movies SCSA appeared in, but by that time I wasn't really investing the time to watch action movies, or any movies, really. I'm more likely to watch a classic comedy I've seen dozens of times or a Star Wars movie if it's on TV.
"Somewhere in a lonely hotel room, there's a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him. It's 2 AM."
It's a dandy movie. I haven't seen every Austin movie yet. Action movies are so cool and fun to watch but yes, reliving the classics over & over is a great thing to do I never seen Moving but i sure remember the hype of it when I was a youngster.
OKAY, before I get to the next Gene Hackman movie that is a great one, I gotta post & talk about the original and that's 1952's The Narrow Margin
This is a very good classic. It follows Charles McGraw as a rugged police detective.
He's escorting eyewitness Marie Windsor whom is wanted by the mafia.
They have great chemistry together
She is a COD PACKAGE See what I'm doing here and why I posted the two Package movies before this
She is absolutely gorgeous
The scene when she encounters the mob is really shocking to say the least
Jacqueline White is also in the movie.
The scene with White and her play son is pretty cute.
Three of the mobsters is Peter Brocco, David Clarke & Peter Virgo.
Again, it a very good movie. The Train & scenery scenes are so remarkable.
Here's the trailer
Tomorrow I'm going post the remake that really twisted things around from 1990 that stars Gene Hackman & Ann Archer
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Huh, how about that, Charlie Sheen returns Okay, well that's good, they were good fun movies. So, here's the remake of The Narrow Margin simply just titled Narrow Margin. It's one of the many great movies that came out in 1990 that is celebrating it's 35th Anniversary as I type this
Now, this movie is directed by one of My big faves and that is Peter Hyams. He's directed some of My fave films including Capricorn One, Outland, Time Cop, Sudden Death (look for a big special about that in time), The Relic & End of Days (I greatly spotlight both of'em in My Horror Topic) and A Sound of Thunder. I love his ways of going on location (look at all of that realistic stuff in Sudden Death & The Relic!) and authentic film-making. Now, while the film follows a lot from the original, it does have different character names and there's a lot of twist & turns compared to the predecessor.
The posters are very cool for the film.
Gene Hackman is the star of the film and his role is a bit like McGraw's. There's a bit of humor with him as there is in some of his movies.
He was about 60 here, he'd performed some good physical stunts here
Now, Ann Archer plays the role that Marie Winsdor did
Was she as beautiful as Windsor Not really however, she was really good looking and you better bet she had some hottness about her
She too had stunts as well.
Archer & Hackman had good chemistry together.
The late great M. Emmett Walsh (strange that he was in Harry in the Henderson because the composer that movie also did Narrow Margin) was in the movie for a time.
The late great J.T. Walsh (no relation with the man above) is only seen in the beginning but his part of the movie why the there is a story to begin with Walsh is one of the great, supporting actor that hardly anybody ever mentions (Pic isn't from the movie)
James Sikking is the main villain, he was also in Hyams' Outland that I brielfy spotlighted before.
The scene with the boy is done in similar fashion yet it was different than the first one.
Here's the Trailer
The music is very good by Bruce Broughton (Silverado, Harry and the Hendersons, The Monster Squad, Tiny Toons, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, Tombstone, Shadow Conspiracy). It a very errie & action packed score
So, there's the Narrow Margin movies plus another for 1990, more to come soon
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
