Well, just more to add to your list I never seen 1984's The Woman in Red with Gene Wilder. Okay, next up is...
I remember the big hype this film got in 92 when it was at the theaters. I sure remember when We rented it from Star Video as well, it was like a mini event back then
The great western is directed by Clint Eastwood. In 92, film making was changing and you could clearly tell about that by watching Unforgiven however, it does have that old school western look & feel, in fact this maybe THE last old school western ever made
Clint Eastwood is a farmer that used to be a major gun fighter. Now having a big hiatus, he's extremely rusty from it and horse riding.
Gene Hackman is "The Law of the Town" and is in one of his finest roles.
Morgan Freeman is Eastwood's best fiend from the old days.
Jaimz Woolvett plays The 'Schofield Kid' and makes the trio.
Also in this great western is the late great Richard Harris as well as Saul Rubinek.
A very young Jeremy Ratchford is a deputy.
Frances Fisher among other women is here.
The story is all focus because of what happen to Anna Thompson in teh beginning of the film
Briefly seen is Cherrilene Cardinal.
Remember Anthony James aka Hector Savage in 91's The Naked Gun 2 Well, he's here as well
The movie has some great scenery.
The climax of the film is really something to witness
The Unforgiven won many Academy Awards including Best Picture and Clint Eastwood for Best Director & Actor and Gene Hackman for Best Supporting Actor.
Here's the Trailer
Here's this Cue by the late great Lennie Niehaus. He's actually from St. Louis, MO He was best friends with Clint Eastwood and made the music for many of his films. Eastwood is a composer himself so he knows music
So that was Unforgiven...
Now, there maybe more to this in the near future...just wait for it We shall see what Hackman movie is next
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Like I said, there's a lot of old school classic western stuff there so it's a bit of a mixture. I never seen 3:10 tp Yum nor the remake but I do think about doing so from time to time.
Okay, here's this next Gene Hackman movie, it's called The Domino Principle
Also known as The Domino Killings, it came in 1977, a big movie year that produced Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Spy that Loved Me & Capricorn One
It stars Gene Hackman in a terrific role & performance.
Candice Bergen plays his wife.
The late great Mikey Rooney plays his bud & inmate.
WHO ARE THEY Well, THEY, are the late great Richard Widmark & Eli Wallach...
as well as the late great Edward Albert.
The good movie was beyond it's time
Here's the iconic lengthy trailer
Now, the opening of the of the movie has one of the most powerful messages EVER in any film, bar-none
Here's the Title Sequence, watch as you see a very young Hackman
The music was tremendous by the late great Billy Goldenberg. Here's 2 Cues from his score
More tomorrow
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
We seen the preview of that Looney Tunes movie a few days ago on YT. It was a surprise especially since what it's about Gosh, and your from the 70s I was like that too but I've learned over the years to look back at the 70s despite I'm not from that decade. Of course, some of the biggest ones was in the 70s like Jaws, Star Wars Ep4 , Close Encounters, Capricorn One, Moonraker & Alien. I realized that there was precursors to the 80s in the film making and the music. I'm like gosh, that looks like it's an 80s movie like The Visitor that I spotlighted a while back for instance, it looks like it's from the mid 80s yet it was from 1979. The same thing with music. A ton of Jerry Goldsmith's music from Capricorn one sounds so epic like something from the 80s yet it came out in 77. See what I mean Without the 70s there would be no 80s. Again, despite I'm not from the 70s, I appreciate a lot of the fun it has brought us Now, that Gene Hackman movie is really good, check it out whenever you can. Okay, just so you know, I got several more Hackman movies to spotlight because he's been in some dandies. Before I get to the next one, there's 2 things to that I must point out to notice about Hackman in his movies. 1, He talks about Baseball a lot and 2. He plays instruments. More on that later.
Okay, remember when I talked about 1983 that it was a huge movie year Well, Gene Hackman was in two big ones. I'm going to spotlight them over the next couple of days so here's this one...it's called Uncommon Valor
Before you get to My spotlight, play this while you see it. The music was so good by the late great James Horner which you know him good now PB. He just came off the heels of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in 82. There are many parts of this great Cue that would sound a lot like his future scores such as Commando, Aliens & Willow, it's such powerful music
Uncommon Valor is a Vietnam War film with flashbacks and also becomes a very powerful post-Nam movie.
It's directed by Todd Kotcheff...he did First Blood the previous year in 1982
The posters, the movie, the look and the overall time always reminds of the great time when there were war games in for the NES, such as Guerrilla War, Jackal, Contra, Rambo among others. I think of this often from such fun times
Hackman plays Col. Rhodes. He's on a very emotional mission to rescue his son who is MIA for about a decade or so
This whole situation has taken over his life since NAM
Now, keep this in mind...this movie came out THE same year as The A-Team in 83. There's a great team that was war buddies with Hackman since the Korean War Here they are which I just love this team
Fred Ward is Wilkes. He is just so cool here.
Many years before he got tangled up with Graboids in the super fun Tremors franchise, he encountered this big Python
Before "The Boz" Brian Bosworth, there was Reb Brown...he is Blaster which I love his name. He's one of the first big blonde guys in the 80s like that
Michael Dudikoff of American Ninja fame is his assistant (Pic isn't from the movie).
Randall "Tex" Cobb, former pro boxer plays Sailor. He's arguably My fave of the movie. Years later he's usually a bad guy seen in Blind Fury, Naked Gun 3 & Ace Venture but he's the cool rugged big guy of the team here.
Without a doubt, he's the most charismatic of the bunch.
Tim Thomerson is really great as Charts...
this was before he was in Zone Troopers, Who's Harry Crumb and before he was known as Jack Deth & Dollman (Pic isn't from the movie).
Harold Sylvester is Johnson who is a major player here.
The late great Patrick Swayze plays Scott, he joins the team later on as he's already stationed in Asia...
He's on his own mission
Their allies with Alice Lau & Kwan Hi Lim.
The late great Robert Stack has a big part in the movie as MacGregor.
Will Rhodes & his squad be able save his POW son and the rest of the Prisoners of War
Here's the team together
By the time of the climax and hearing James Horner's wonderful score, emotions will be high
Here's the Trailer
Here's this ABC promo from 1986 of Uncommon Valor
I'll post the other Gene Hackman movie from 1983 tomorrow
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Never seen it, but Vietnam movies weren't really high on my list in the 80s.
It's so stupid, this actually looked ok but not digging the Things voice, and for god's sake, SHAVE YOUR MUSTACHE! Like, how lazy. Pedro Pascal just doesn't look like Reed to me. Honestly, they had John Krasinski who had a much better face for the character, and doesn't need a mustache. On the plus side, Sue and Johnny look pretty good.
"Somewhere in a lonely hotel room, there's a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him. It's 2 AM."
I didn't think you saw that one either. I'm not a huge fan of Nam movies however some are needed to check out some you can't help about like House for instance because it's a part of it. Again, I really loved that team. Hackman has been in some really different ones. No Trailer Spotlight today because the one you posted needs to be all on it's own. I knew they were doing a new Fantastic 4 movie but I never researched anything about it because I was fed up with the first reboot back in 2015 that they never did anything about afterward. However, I am a huge fan of the 2005 movie and it's 2007 sequel so with them rebooting a great & fun duo like that it was really bittersweet for Me. I will spotlight them in time. I also plan of showcasing My F4 Movie figures in My Marvel Collection Topic as well this year, they're some of My fave figs of ever of all-time.
Now, notice that every movie sans the 2007 sequel has come out during a year of "5". This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the 2005 version and the 10th for the 2015 reboot. It's like of course they would reboot the franchise once again especially during an anniversary year Here's this picture of the three versions together with the years.
There's a lot of pros & cons about this. Here's My list as to what they are.
PROS:
It looks comic accurate in many ways, possibly one of the most comic accurate to date. I love it when the they do that instead of Hollyweird's visions.
Another retro style movie because the past is the way to go.
Pascal might be the right choice, he's certainly got parts in recent times but really, who talked about him before The Mandalorian I knew him long before that. The movie that I really noticed him in was 2017's The Great Wall which I will spotlight in My MonsterVerse+ Topic soon since it was by Legendary
Vanessa Kirby is a great choice to play The Invisible Woman, she's one of the coolest & hottest newer actresses out there. Check her out in Mission Impossible: Fallout plus Hobbs & Shaw
It has Galactus in physical form and appears to be huge like he should be, the 2007 movie didn't, he was a cosmic storm
CONS:
This almost looks like and feels like an A.I. film without being an actual A.I. movie
This should be in modern day. This makes it very unlikely to have that Avengers & X-Men crossover many people including Myself has been wanting for many years
Mr. Fantastic should have more gray hair.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach who plays Ben Grimm slightly reminds of Elon Musk. Strange because he was in a movie called Tesla a while back Also, don't forget, Musk was actually in the first MCU movie, Iron Man back in 2008
The Silver Surfer is a WOMAN - WHAT WHY The character was so cool in the 2007 movie, why change the gender
Where's Dr. Victor Von Doom Sure, he was in the previous movies but surely there's a hint of him here or in a cut scene at the end credits
How about The Mole Man When in the Sam "Freggin" Heck is he ever going to be in a movie
QUESTIONABLE:
The fun factor of the movie as a whole. Seems like most people do nothing but complain about the movies for whatever reason. I know I don't like all of that DEI crap now a days but people's gotta watch for the cryptic truths, every movie them, you just gotta have an open mind. I was absolutely stoked about the F4 movie in 2005. I found the film so exciting from beginning to end. It's My fave Marvel film.
Will this new team have the chemistry and overall family feeling the 2005 version & it's 2007 sequel had The 2015 version sure didn't.
The music.is always important. When I first heard John Ottman's great score when I first got the CD back in 2005, I couldn't stop listening to it. It's one of the most memorable superhero scores ever written, same thing with the sequel. 2015's was by Marco Beltrami (Jerry Goldsmith's student) & Philip Glass (a big veteran). As great as they are, I found their score way lesser than Ottman's. Now, the composer for this new one is Michael Giacchino. He's one of the best there is right now that isn't a Hans Zimmer guy. He's done a ton like Fringe, Cloverfield, Star Trek Reboot Trilogy, SW: Rogue One, Super 8, John Carter of Mars, The Planet of the Apes Trilogy, many animated movies and yes, super hero films for the MCU so he's been established with a lot over the course of 20 years or so. I love his sound and I have a big confidence that his score will be a big winner whether the film is or not plus the score always, always makes a movie way more exciting.
That's it for this. I'll spotlight the original F4 movies in time. Next will be another Gene Hackman movie from 1983
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
Ah yes, for a moment I forget Norrin Radd was replaced by a female Silver Surfer. It's so dumb. I guess she's from an alternate MU comic or something, who cares. If you want to cast a female Herald why not use Nova? I loved Frankie Raye. They can't help themselves, I guess. I don't know, nothing about they way Pedro Pascal looks screams Reed. It should've been someone more slender with a narrower face. And no mustache! The first FF movie wasn't bad. The cloud Galactus kind of ruined the second one. I've never seen the reboot one nor do I ever intend to. I don't know why it's so hard to be faithful to the source material other than for most comics that means the 1960s when comics were written entirely by white men.
"Somewhere in a lonely hotel room, there's a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him. It's 2 AM."
Actually she's not Noran Radd. I just read that the character's name is Shalla-Bal so there's a chance that we'll see more of the race and one could be Radd No, it's like the action figures, we gotta have the same thing stuff over & over again. There's so many that there could be but nope Yes, he shouldn't have a stache. Yes, it was bittersweet that he was a cloud in the sequel but it was still a fun film. Oh I think they do that on purpose for their own gains & agendas without thinking of making it accurate to the stories & source material tat's important to fans. Take Michael Bay of what he did with the Transformers for instance. Also Rian Johnson as to what he did to SW: The Last Jedi. He even said himself that he didn't care what the fans wanted, he wanted to do his way Now there is some that pay true to source material and listen to fans. George Lucas listened...he put Aayla Secura in AOTC because she became a fan fave. There's others like Adam Wingard that tries to keep it true as well.
I never seen Blankman but I sure remember the hype of it back in 94. The trailer is hilarious. I may one day see that.
So now, here's the other Gene Hackman movie from 1983...it's called Under Fire, I just love this poster
It's a political war movie taking place in Central America.
The movie actually starts out in Africa
Like all cultures, they need a leader & savior which this a major part of the plot.
Nick Nolte is a photographer.
Joanna Cassidy is his partner and love interest.
They have good chemistry together.
They also get into a lot of crap along the way. Cassidy is really nice looking here.
Gene Hackman plays their boss.
Hackman really is a great in this movie.
Hackman plays her husband, Keep in mind that the other day I posted the 89 classic, The Package. Hackman & Cassidy were in that too and as a couple no less
What happens when he finds out that his wife and Nolte are having an affair together
Ed Harris plays a j@ck @$$ mercenary.
Elpidia Carillo (87's Predator) has a small part in the movie (Pic isn't from the movie).
Alma Martinez is in the film.
Holly Palance (Jack's daughter) is in the film (Pic isn't from the movie).
Jean-Louis Trintignant has a big part.
If you never seen this before then you'll find out that the unthinkable happens
Here's the Trailer
The music was by the legendary late great Jerry Goldmsith. He just came off the heels of First Blood the previous year in 82. This music that he created is so dynamic & wonderful. It does sound in ways like First Blood. It fits so much like the scenery and as to what is going on. I love the guitar & the stringed instruments. Only something this magical could come from Goldsmith
This Cue is very sweet
I got more Hackman movies, I wanna spotlight them while their strong on My mind so another Hackman movie is coming soon
The Past isn't a Wilderness of Horrors - We Grow Old Because We Stop Playing - DTA - If it's been done in a movie, then most likely it's already been done in Real Life - ALWAYS Watch the Skies - Question Everything, FTW! = Me + Various <-->
