Name Of Genre: New Wave

Where did it originate from?: The New York Underground around late 70's early 80's, a lot of inspiration taken from France Noir Films.

Main Bands / Musicians: Blondie, Talking Heads, Boomtown Rats, Duran Duran, Devo, INXS, The Clash (Later stuff around there Ska / Dub era), Bow Wow Wow, Joy Division (Later songs), New Order, Sioux And The Banshes, Some of Stiv Bators plus many more.

Related genres: Punk (From 70's - 80's), Power-Pop, NDW (Neue Deutsche Welle), Post-Punk, Goth Rock, New Pop, Synth, Post-Disco plus many others.

Small History / overview:

New Wave is today a popular music genre, starting around the mid 70's / early 80's, with bands such as Blondie and Talking Heads from CBGB (A famous / well known Punk pub in New York, the CBGB was actually going to be for Country Blues and Greengrass). The UK had a well known New Wave scene which was mixed with both Power-Pop and Punk, they had a main pub in London called The Vortex, which again was manly a Punk bar.

However many UK bands would play both Punk and New Wave, as there was popularity in both genres, some bands would even play Power-Pop due to having an influence by Italian sub-cultre like scooter's, coffee and fine Italian suits / shoes.

After the early wave from about the 80's Germany changed the movement of New Wave with NDW they added more of an electronic and experimental styles, from there New Wave became well known as Disco music.

From the 90's New Wave was a fading genre most bands would be called Indie Rock, Brit Pop or Euro Disco though New Wave did help create Synthwave, Dance-Punk and a few era of DIY Electronic genres.

Other Comments:

Lets see what the community likes about New Wave, I am a fan of a lot of older songs / albums so Blondie Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bow Wow Wow and anything that is a mixture of both Punk and New Wave.

Here are some songs I recommend to get ya started!
